Rear end collision on highway?

I was driven down the highway in back of a vehicle. The traffic was pretty slow. Lets say about 30 to 45..... As i was switching lanes the vehicle in front of me was also trying to switch lanes. when she noticed she coulnt she just did a sudden stop because the car in front of her had stooped and she didn't have time. So i had to hit my breaks because she had just stooped outta no where... So my car ended up hitting her on the left rear end of her car and mine in the right end of my front bumper...... The damage to the cars was a little scratch because the hit was so soft but she still reported it to the insurance agency......... Those this sound like a 50/50???

No it sounds like a 100. You are always at fault when you rear end someone. The reason the other car stopped has nothing to do with it. Report this to your insurance company ASAP. Brakes not breaks

You said she had to stop because the car in front of her stopped.

She stopped because she had to. Running over the car in front of her....just so you don't hit her was really not an option.

In the end, you were following to closely. Traffic came to a sudden stop. The car in front of you was able to stop in time to avoid the car in front of her....however, you were not able to stop in time to avoid the car in front of you.

Based on the very limited information you provided....I expect that the accident will be deemed your fault.

By your description, probably 100/0 in her favor. As far as amount, who knows? You were following too close.

You are at fault. Vehicles can stop suddenly, without warning, which is why you need to maintain a safe following distance.

Most rear end collisions are found to be the person that hit them from the rear at fault. If there is no other accidents or damage.. the other way to deal is if the accident was under 2k work with the person that was involved. Thus keeping it from being counted against each other. If u have a perfect record your insurance should not hold the accident against you if they do get involved.

You need to get a hold of the accident police report if there is one and talk to a lawyer. The county the accident happen will have record of it. If you are not at fault and a good record you will be ok. Just dont have another accident over 2000 damage in the next 2 or 3 years.

Most accidents under $2000 don't make it to the national data base.
