Ok, so my mom bought my first car for me and it is registered in Arkansas with her name and my name on the title. She had car insurance for me in Arkansas. I recently moved to Illinois with my fiance. She wants to cancel my insurance.

Since I live in illinois I assume that I have to get Illinois insurance. does that mean that my car needs to be registered in Illinois as well? Do i need to take her name off the title? Im so confused about all of this.

Did your mom get a loan on the car? Is it paid off? if so, your mom can remove her name from the title and transfer the title to just your name. She can't just cancel you off of her policy. The insurance company will want proof that you have insurance in Illinois. You should probably first, get the car titled in just your name & second get insurance in IL. Once you have insurance, your mom can cancel you off her of policy and her insurance company will probably accept verbal proof of your insurance.

yes, you do have to register it in illinois and get insurance and the tag there, but i do not think you have to take her name off the title.
