Rental car insurance?

As I know it provides such a service for rental cars with much less rates than renters itself.

The car rental insurance usually doesn't have a deductible nor would it be turned into your insurance. Plus when renting a car you are required to have full coverage- if you only carry liability then you have to buy the coverage from the rental company. Other than that it is up to you if you get it or not. My husband travels for work quite often and he always gets the insurance so that if something does happen it does not raise our insurance rates.

yes pretty much if you get a rental cars insurance you just basically go back to them with the keys and you cant be charged

if you pay by credit card you may be covered and should decline the additional coverage. ck with your credit card company.

btw-they make big commissions on selling the add-on insurance

Their coverage will pay for the damage, but they're also going to bill you for it. Your personal auto insurance may cover it, but that means higher costs. If you buy the insurance policy from the rental place, it prevents you from having to pay any additional cost should something happen. It's not a bad idea to get it, especially if you're driving long distance, in a city, or someplace unfamiliar.

First, not all insurance companies permit their coverages to transfer to rental vehicles. If your policy excludes coverage transfering to a rental vehicle, you will need to pay for the coverages that are offerred by the rental car company otherwise they won't let you take the car off the lot.

Secondly, If only carry liability coverage (coverage if YOU cause damage to someone else) then you will need to purchase their insurance to cover the rental vehicle in case you damage the rental car.

Anytime you are going to rent a vehicle you should verify with your agent if you need to purchase the additional coverage. Rental car companies offer 2 coverages, PAI (additional personal injury coverage) and DW (damage waiver). If your carrier says you don't need it then you don't have to by it. Most insurance provided by the rental car companies cost about $15 a day for DW and $15 a day for PAI. that is in addition to the cost of the rental vehicle itself.

When you choose to purchase the insurance provided by the rental car company, that insurance will become primary if you have a loss when it comes to handling a claim.

One more thing to know, if you carry a liability only policy and have an accident in your primary vehicle and the at fault carrier places you in a rental vehicle, the at fault carrier is not liable for insuring the rental vehicle while you use it. The insurance company is only responsible for providing you with transportation and putting you back into the same condition you were prior to the loss.

When you a rent a vehicle and you don't purchase the additional insurance it is YOUR insurance that is responsible. Rental car companies are self-insured. They only provide excess coverage to your personal auto policy when extreme cases arise.

You don't have to purchase it at the time of rental, but is available to you so you don't get charged in the event the car receives damage in your care(i.e, scratches, dents, etc.).
