Rented a car, and got into an accident. Who's fault? What happens next?

I was making a right turn when another vehicle (coming straight down) hit me on the rear passenger door on the driver's side. Both cars were seriously damaged, although none of the people were seriously injured. I had declined all insurance offered by the rental agency, as I relied on my VISA auto rental insurance. I do not have my own auto insurance. I have never been in an accident before and I am clueless about what happens next. Am I at fault? I had checked carefully to see that I had ample opportunity to make that turn. Some friends tell me that since the other vehicle bumped into me at the rear, it is that person's fault since he should have had the control of his vehicle. Will the insurance companies come after me for paying them out of my own pocket?

Call your Bank or whomever issued your Visa. You need to get whatever insurance company Visa has contracted on this acting immediately. The number should be on the back of your card.

If you do have Visa's "Collision Damage" coverage, you let your Visa issuer tell you what you have to do. If you have a "basic" card, that doesn't, you can expect the rental company to come after you for:
a) Cost to repair car
b) Loss of rental income while car is being repaired

you were hit on the side, not in the rear, and you failed to yield the right of way, so yes, you are at fault and liable. Contact the insurance company and report the claim.

It doesn't sound like you did have ample opportunity to turn since the other car hit you on the side door. Thats not the same as getting rear ended at all?
Anyway, the car going straight almost always has the right of way. Since they hit you on the side you hadn't even finished turning before they reached you- it sounds like you are at fault. I guess contact Visa auto insurance program and see what happens next, I've never used them so IDK if it works differently from normal insurance.

You were turning and the other car had right of way,therefore you are in the wrong.

The police report will state who is at fault. Also, when making that right turn, did you have right of the way? prolly not and thus you will be at fault and have to pay for the damages of the car.

if you got his information then his insurance should pay but if not then you are going to have to pay the company when the over look the car,
it happened to me before some guy backed into a car i rented and put a little dent and a scratch on it and i ended up having to pay 2500$

You should have used a fake visa like me so you could just leave it somewhere.
