Almost certainly yes if you passed your test on or after 1st June 1997. (new drivers act)

Yes and No! there is a loop hole, if you have been banned for drink driving you get no points so you wont have to re-take your test after the ban.
If you rack up more than 6 points in the first 2 years of passing your driving test then you will have to re-sit your theory test and driving test. |

If you get 6 points within the first two years you lose your licence and you go right back to square one, getting a new provisional, L plates, the lot including taking theory and practical tests again.
PS Must add, yes, there's a difference between losing your licence under the "new driver" scheme, i.e. getting 6 points, and losing it for other offences. Different rules apply. Oddly. |

i thought this when i got banned but after a year i applied to the dvla and got my full licence back not a provisional that was for drink driving aswell |

If you have at least 6 points in the 1st 2 years of passing, in your case being banned it's a possibly yes, you will have to re-sit the driving test, both theory and practical. |
