Road rage... i gotta change?

tonight i almost caused an accident. i skidded at a roundabout slipping into the other lane narrowly missing the driver in the other lane. i skidded cause i revved too hard cause some idiot wanted to drive right on my back bumper. ive had other near misses before while reacting to the aggression of other drivers. each time i promise myself ill just let them pass and be a responsible driver, this lasts a few days and i find myself "taking no bs" again. how can i change and prevent aggression from irresponsible drivers causing me to drive irresponsibly?
the driver i near missed pulled over and put on their hazards, i feel like sht.
anyone with similar bad temper/lack of control?

prevention is better than the cure......dont let urself get in these situations to begin with
enjoy ur drive and leave 10 mins earlier to get to ur destination then ur have more time and can drive without worry.
all it takes is a child to walk out in front of you and thats it

Well, you could have some one ride with you like a friend or a parent. thats what i do so i don't speed, drive irresponsibly, and have someone to talk to then. :)

if that does'nt help then maybe you could just try being a little bit more watchful of the drivers around you. in towns i'm a very watchful, and patient person because i'm not as worried about a fender bender, but rather runing over some kid that might run out in the road. let me tell you it's pretty scary when some little kid runs right out in front of you forcing you to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting them.

I used to have bad road rage.

What I do now is try and figure out the reason why these people are rude/in a rush.

What calms me down is imagining this people are having for a poop so bad that it is making them drive like a lunatic. Imagine them in pain, squeezing their cheeks together, smelling their own putrid farts, staining their pants etc. This makes me laugh so hard that I don't get angry anymore and I let them pass. Don't want them pooping in their pants.

There are a lot of idiots on the road, it is very hard to not have road rage from time to time. Try listening to music that makes you feel mellow, that has helped me.

Make a concious effort when you feel stressed to let as many people out of side turnings as you can. You'll soon discover that it only adds a fraction of time to your journey. It also has the added bonus of whoever is driving on your exhaust pipe has to slow down as well.

You'll feel better and more in control of yourself and react in a positive way.

I hear you... as a native New Yorker KNOWN for her "attitude", I struggled with that for years.

Some suggestions:
Do you have a family/kids? I just put a photo of my KIDS on the dashboard where I see it when I'm driving... it reminds me that there are BIGGER issues at stake than some moron in another car. If you don't have kids, perhaps a note to "yourself" reminding you that it's JUST NOT WORTH THE RISK.

My gramma used to have what she called the "50-year rule". If the situation will "matter" (or even be REMEMBERED) in fifty years, then it's worth the risk. If, in 50 years, it will not matter (or be long forgotten), then it's best for your "now" to turn and walk (drive) away.

Maybe if you took a defensive driving course, you would learn to mellow out. It's not a race out there, you are simply going from point a to point b, no need to get all stressed out, just drive. If you see people doing stupid things, remember, that was you at that last light when that stupid idiot didn't floor it, as soon as the light turned green. There are more important things in life to worry about.
