I actually took it in Rahway a week ago, but I failed. It wasn't my driving itself, but it was my stupid mistakes. I did not position myself correctly for parallel parking. I wasn't far up enough and as a result, my angle was off.
The course itself is very simplistic. Just watch out for stop signs, don't go to fast.
In the beginning, he told me to just keep going straight, but eventually I thought the road ended, so I made a right, and it was a wide truck-turn kind of right. It mentally brought me down. But later on he told me that was not the reason why I failed. He didn't hold it against me that I was nervous.
About the uphill, he will make you park on a road that to me, did not look like a hill. So be warned. He will ask you what to do in that situation, just remember which way you turn the wheels when parking. And don't forget the emergency break.
Also, I failed because I stupidly did not check my mirrors and blind spots. I just was not thinking. Here is the order he told me to do it in, signal, mirrors, and blind spot. Check rearview and sides. Since it was on a closed course, I didn't check for other cars like I would on the real road.
But other than that it is a simple test. Good Luck!! I take my retest in Rahway a week from tomorrow.
EDIT: Do everything to be safe. Even if you don't do really do it on the road, just check every mirror when necessary. Don't make the mistake I made. Make sure your hands are on 10 and 2. When turning to a hand over hand turn and don't let the wheel spin back by itself, it shows that you don't have full control of the car. Also, don't start the car until he gets in. If you do, it will be an automatic failure. Make sure he puts his seatbelt on, if he doesn't, ask him nicely to put it on. |
