SILLY QUESTION,but what do i do about driving licence?.?

I passed my driving test in an Automatic and so can only drive Automatic.
Now i want to pass in a manual,do i need to apply for another provisional for manual or can just start having driving lessons in a manual and can go straight in for test?.
Additional Details
No i passed my driving test in An Automatic car, on my driving licence it sys i can only drive legally in an Automatic car.

I have to pass my driving test, in manual in u.k to legally drive a manual.

As others have said, your automatic licence doubles as a provisional licence for a manual - no need to reapply.

Remember, though, that when you learn on a manual, all the provisional licence rules apply - that is, you must display L plates and you must be accompanied by someone who has held a full manual licence for at least three years and is over 21.

I drive automatic. Can't see any reason these days to learn manual, unless you are planning to drive vans or old classic cars.

if you took your test in an automatic then it means you can only drive automatic as you have had no lesson using gear shifts, i would think that you would have to take a test in a manual car, best thing for you too do is phone a driving instructor up and find out.

Hayley
no you can only drive an automatic you need to take new Driving lessons in a manual car. Driving a manual is harder to drive because you have more things to think about. You need to have lessons because if you go straight in for your test you will fail and more than likely crash and keep stalling the car.

Ignore the Americans, their rules don't apply in the UK. Your licence for an automatic can be used as a provisional for driving a manual, you just need to find a driving instructor and arrange lessons in a manual.

Its not a silly question.its a valid question, as you can see from previous answers.
in the U.K. you DO have to take a manual test if you have only driven an automatic, i done the same, drove automatic for a year then had to do manual lessons, then test.
you have passed your driving test, but you are restricted to an automatic, which is easier to drive than a manual. if you had passed your test in a manual, then you are qualified to drive an automatic, NOT the other way around.
if you have been driving an automatic you will have had practical on road experience, which will help you for your manual test, you DO NOT have to apply for a provisional license as your automatic license covers you.

an automatic license does not allow you to drive a manual. ask any driving school instructor.

hope this helps, it is correct.

Your licence for an automatic only is valid as a provisional licence for a car with a manual gear box.

you dont need to apply for another provisional. you just have to take another test in manual. you can actually learn to drive with anyone who has had a full manual licence for 3yrs, and display l plates. i would be very curious to know the outcome because i am in a bit of a similar situation myself.

in the UK, if you pass your test on a manual car then you can drive both types of car, BUT if you pass on an automatic car then you can only drive an automatic as you have no gear changing training.
you can use your current licence as a provisional for a manual, take the test then you will get a new licence after passing the test that will allow you to drive either car

Hello

Your licence should have Group B on the Photo Part to show Full licence.
It will have the limited to Automatic on the Paper Part. It is also your Provisional for Manual cars so you can carry on book the lessons.

In the UK your automatic full license acts as your provisional license for a manual car, you DO need to pass a test in a manual car in order to be able to drive a manual. A word of advice, try to practice with someone in a manual car, if you go to a driving school it will cost you a small fortune in lessons, as you have been driving an automatic hopefully you have road knowledge and road sense, but you have probably also developed 'bad habits', these you must get out of. one of the biggest failing points of people in your situation is their steering, remember when you first learnt to drive, hands at the 10 to 2 position. good luck.

You can still learn on your provisional , so long as the car is insured for you and there is a fully qualified driver sitting next to you . It is always much better to learn to drive in a manual which gives you a better understanding of how the car actually works . Then when you pass your test you can transfer to auto if you like

Yeah, you will need to apply for a provisional licence, although you can continue to drive your auto until you've completed the theory and practical test.Basically,it's like you're a new driver again but with the knowledge of the roads. At least you can drive your auto till you're done =D

Your Just Jealous
I practiced driving with a manual car.

it's the same test. it's about the laws of the road, not whether you can operate a stick or auto, altho it's important that you can control whatever car you're driving...

His LadyBug
when you get your license it is for a class of vehicle,. A car is the same class whether it be automatic or manual.. you don't have to do anything else. You already have the license you need.

you just drive, there is no double testing
