My boyfriend is required to get a SR-22 before he can get his license. I dont understand this though, because I thought you had to have a license before you could get insurance. He has never had a license, nor does he own a vehical. Can someone explain this please?

he has a drug conviction, marijuana under 2 oz that is it. he has to have it for 2 years

SR22 is not insurance, it's a form that goes to the state proving you carry insurance. So, to get his license, he will have to contact an insurance agent that handles high risk cases, and pay for insurance. Once he does they will notify the state he is covered, and then he can get his license. SR22 will have to be carried for 3 years. |

your boyfriend has obviously caused some vehicle damage before, now the state will REQUIRE that he be responsible and carry insurance coverage to protect other drivers, if he drops the insurance coverage the state will come after him |

You can purchase an sr22 filing without having a license it is basically just letting the dmv know that your boyfreind has insurance. he would take the form into the dmve and then pay the fines and get his license reinstated. If he doesnt own a vehicle then he would get a non owners sr22 filing if that is what he needs. |
