You can consider a scooter. You can get a 150cc chinese scooter for around $900 and the insurance won't be that much more. I you have to take the highway and need somethong more faster, get an older motorcycle. A standard bike or a cruiser would be less insurance than a sport bike. You could get a decent older used bike for as little as $1500.

It is MUCH more dangerous, although it can be much more fun. It is a REAL pain in inclement weather. In Chicago, to have only a bike is NO GO. Bikers who obey all the rules of the road--and unfortunately many don't--can still be hit and in any contest of car and bike (let alone SUV), car wins, biker loses. You need to wear a helmet because you never know when you'll fall. Only two kinds of bikers: those who have fallen and those who have yet to fall. I say wait to get a bike until you can afford both bike and car.

depending on where you live, some cities/towns are bike friendly with bike lanes. or you could take public transportation. the problem with that is that there are times when it can be unreliable if you need to be somewhere on time.

Dude, bike insurance is super cheap. My friends pay only a few hundred a month tops and have terrible licenses, and I am in NJ.

Man up and get the bike, you'll love it. It is sooo much fin riding.

Plus, you can't drive them both at the same time, so the insurance should be not much more, or less.

I wouldnt buy a bike if it is your only mode of transportation. you have realize in bad weather i.e. rain and snow, you wont want to ride.

You can have both. Buy a good used late model starter bike that someone is wanting to trade up to a bigger bike. Insurance will be cheap , maintenence is cheap, and 40-50 miles mpg . But I would recommend a motorcycle safety course may be 250.00-300.00 dollars but well worth the cost.

The bike is so much more economical, I would go with it. You will get exercise and maintain a healthy life. Cars are just as dangerous people die in them all the time!

DON'T GET THE BIKE BECAUSE THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE THAT STILL DON'T LOOK OUT FOR THEM.

BETTER TO USE A LITTLE GAS THAN MAYBE BE CRIPPLE FOR LIFE DUE TO SOME IDIOT OUT THERE.
