Road tax - possibly.
Insurance - never. |

Far to complicated to incorporate insurance into fuel price. High risk drivers would pay the same as someone who only uses a car at weekends and does not pose as much of a risk.
EDIT: how would driving standards go down exactly? |

Argument for tax to some extent but the risk for drivers insurance is different for everyone. |

No driving standards would go down.
and how would the government reward care full drivers
Ref vav who would give a toss about their no claims bonus if insurance was a free for all, |

Whilst it is a good idea in principle, the problem is that the fuel already has added to it VAT and Duty to a level which far exceeds what is spent on roads and transportation.
Motorists already pay far more towards the general taxation than non- motorists and this is unfair.
Also people living in the rural ares and those not on bus routes would end up paying more still, as they already do pay more, for insurance which again would not be eqitable.
I do agree that a more reliable system for making sure that a vehicle is covered need to be put in place. With the ever increasing amount of Automatic Number Plate Recognition equipment on the roads this is getting better all the time, but slowly. |

No.nice idea then someone would decide to have a registration fee every year and before long you would be paying the extra on your fuel and for registration which would in the long run be what you are paying now. |

I can see your logic but unfortunately it wouldn't work.
Your thoughts that the Welsh (don't know what your problem is with them) would be out of a job is wrong as they would have to employ MORE people at DVLA to refund the payments for what are currently Tax exempted vehicles.
The cost of everything that is delivered by road and the cost of travel by bus would increase immensly, as the current cost of road tax is minimal compared to the amount of tax they would pay in the cost of fuel. You would then need even more people to administer refunds. (Even you might get a job with them!!) |

It might work for mandatory coverages (the coverages required by law), therefore optional coverages (higher liability, collision, comprehensive, etc) could be purchased separately. However everyone would be paying the same, and bad drivers know that should they get into an accident they would still be paying the same as everyone else (optional coverages might increase in premium for that person). Bad drivers would like the scheme however good drivers may not appreciate having to subsidize bad drivers to THAT extreme. |

Hello
Road Tax, yes, they have had this in Germany when I was based there in 1978. That is why their Fuel was more expensive. More Miles you do the more road tax you pay and you spread it out instead off finding a lump ever 6 months or year. Might also stop gas guzzlers.
Insurance, No, as my 3rd Party deserves to be cheaper with Full NCB than someone who has just got there licence back from a ban.
I also think cars in U.K should be restricted or geared down not to exceed 90 MPH except emergency Vehicles

I dont know about insurance but I think that road tax should definately be included in the petrol! Here in the UK we pay a rediculous amount for both road tax and petrol!! |
