On your first lesson you will mainly be learning how to set off from a standing start. You may be driving a bit but I doubt you'll get out of second gear. |

Yes,if your driving instructor thinks you have enough confidence.
Hope this helps and have a good evening ;-) |

The answer is "more than likely". All tuition is, or should be, tailored to how well you grasp various points, everyone has initial difficulties with all sorts of things which vary from person to person. You'll be sat in the driver's seat and have the various controls explained to you, then you'll have a go at starting the engine and moving off. Some people have problems to start with in doing this smoothly so you might be spending more time on this point. However, all being well, you should be driving at some stage in the lesson. Don't worry about thinking you're slower or faster than someone else you know who's taking lessons, everyone learns at different speeds. |

I own and run a driving school myself.
We ALWAYS let people drive on their first lesson :)
With some people it will be basic car control - moving off and stopping, with others they'll go a stage or two further, and move onto "proper" driving, but no-one ever finishes their first lesson without having driven the car.
In my experience, most instructors will get the prelminaries over with as soon as possible and are happy to get their students doing what they want to do - starting to drive :)
You will however find some instructors (often offering cheap deals or "free first lesson" etc), who cut down on their overheads by spending ages with the car stationary "talking through things". Every instructor needs to recap, explain and debrief etc and sometimes during a lesson it's necessary to get the student to stop so that a particular situation that has arisen can be discussed, but the type of instructor who spends ages talking/waffling or procrastinating is best avoided - driving is a hands-on (kinetic) skill and is best learnt by doing it rather than talking about it endlessly :) |

It all depends on how the instructor wants to do it.
If they would rather spend the first lesson going over rules of the road, checking the car (tire pressure, oil, how to change a tire etc). Seems to me that would be a viable way to spend the first lesson. |

Well ask this question, Can you drive?
Most people going for a lesson will have or not have driven before,
If you havent driven you should not be able to drive the car on the first lesson, The instructer might want to spend a long time showing you a lot of information on how to use a car,
If you are confident that you kinda know how to drive the instructer will take you to a quiet small road and ask you to drive a little.
Be honest with the instructer.
I hope this has helped you, Take Care......Drive safe... |
