Show Plates?

Has anyone put show plates on their car? I really want a set on mine, howvever I know their illegal and all but ive seen them on several cars and they seem to get away with it. Since ive only just past my test and am only allowed 6 penalty points max, im not sure. The plate im considering, well the font is slighty smaller, slighty italic and well the font looks far better, i also dont want any text at the bottom where the dealers name should be. This plate looks far superior yet the changes are subtle so i believe that cops would overlook it even IF they noticed it, worse situation is i get 3 points and learn my lesson however i believe that they would just give you a verbal warning. And besides I dont believe id be caught, my mates been driving the roads im driving and in the past 3 years hes been stopped once, and that was just a routine check.

The incorrect licence plate won't result in points. It's classed as a minor defect an you are given 7 days to rectify the problem. But a police officer friend of mine has said that it's not usually worth the paper work - so she never bothers and just gives a formal warning...

If you value your licence, then you will refrain from such vanity until you know you have the points to play with; and this will be never if each offence gets you two, and you only have a limit of 12!

What's the purpose of this embellishment anyway - it's just another money extraction device - don't do it ever!

Don't do it.
That is a serious input piece of advice from one who was 'caught'.
Don't assume plodworthy is to busy to process the paperwork. He/she may be waiting the end of the shift !!

there are rules in place by the cops. but what i was told is that as long as the lettering is clear and can be easily read at 20 something metres u'll b ok. i've had customized plates on both cars and bikes and never been pulled on them even when i've been pulled 4 something else!!

I was pulled a couple of years ago by Hampshire police for having incorrect trailer plate - wrong colour. I was told I could face a Â£30 on the spot fine - now Â£60. I think it must have been his 'wrong week'!!! Or the fact he was driving a 'Noddy Car' instead of a real police car - BMW 5 series

best thing is keep the original font but add a picture against the side of the plate most have the countries flag but car makes or cartoons have been added there and without any probs from the police that many of my friends have reported but the font can sometimes be an issue.
If you have an imported car then the plate size can be smaller.The dvla website has the info and sizes.
Real shame as i have seen some great show plates.
But people i have read have been caught in the past have been told to change them.thats all.

Why would you risk a ticket just to make that one small part of your car look slightly different from the other 99 percent of the cars on the road? There are plenty of legal ways to decorate your car. I don't know what country you are in but in most of the United States you can get "vanity" plates with your choice of a name or word, as long as it isn't offensive and nobody else has the same one.
