Sister in law moving to uk from usa?

she has an american driving licence but is moving to uk can she just use her licence-or will she have to do a british test and give her american one up. she is coming February and wants to drive. i know she can use it if she comes on holiday but dont know about permanently. also how does sshe go about insurance again will she have to change to english ones or keep hers untill policy runs out

She can use her US licence here for up to 12 months from the date of entering the country. During that period she'll have to apply for a provisional UK licence and take our tests to gain a full UK licence for use after that 12 month period. An American licence is not exchangeable for a UK one.

Regarding insurance, I presume you're talking about her driving a UK registered car. In that case she must be covered by a UK insurance policy.

If she is going to be resident in the UK then she can use her US license for upto 12 months.
Then she must get a provisional and take the relevant tests.
