Someone crashed into my parked car what do i do?

someone swiped into the side of my car ruining the driver side mirror and alot of the body because they dropped their cellphone in their car and tried to pick it up while driving (or so they told the cops...).

neighbors saw it and called the police and the police later found the guy and got all his info (name, address, insurance info). i know i should probably call a claim, but i already pay too much for insurance (350 a month) plus my car payment (380 a month) and my record was about to be clean come this september. its already wayyy too much for me to pay just to have a car.

i would like to find a way to handle this without getting that evil insurance company involved cause they will jack up my premium for another 3 or 4 years. Anyone have a good solution?

Um.... why dont you contact his insurance directly and file a claim through them?

Insurance companies are not evil. If you call your company your adjuster will help you through the process of going through the at fault carrier and answer any questions you have.

Why would they raise your premium for a not at fault accident where no damages where paid out? duh.

Assuming you are in the US and the driver that hit you is insured, you do not even need to get your insurance company involved. Just call the liable party's insurance company and file a claim. You have a police report and witnesses, so they can't try to deny liability. They will pay for your repairs and raise the rates of the person who hit you.

It could affect your insurance (not as much as an accident YOU cause, but it could), but...what record are you talking about being clean? A car hitting your parked car isn't going to go on your driving record, if that's what you mean, because it had nothing to do with your driving.

And how do you manage to pay 350 a month? Are you 18 driving a Mustang or something?

Oh, and I wouldn't try to settle this without insurance. The perpetrator will balk at the amount. It sounds like this is going to be expensive, and people never want to believe how much body damage costs.

You said "parked". So how come you are worried about the insurance thing? Why not ask your local DMV concerning insurance matters? If wasn't your fault maybe your present insurance will understand you!!! Or ask an ambulance chaser!! Sometimes their advises are handy useful!!

If you are in the UK and your car was parked, the offender's insurance company would have to stump up all the money and your own insurance premium should not be affected at all. And if your insurance company want to put your premium up just shop around for a different company when you are due to renew.

if they found the guy that was responsible and you have a police report why are you considering making a claim? he has to pay for the damage not you? It wont effect your insurance payments!
