When you contact your insurance they will sent you a claim form to complete and get you to obtain estimates for the repair. Some companies state which repairs you must use, others don't. Providing the estimate is not a ridicules price they will give the go ahead for you to have the work done. Check with the insurance Co as to whether you can use a hire car or not. You may find that you will have to pay the excess and you will have to claim this back from the other persons insurance

Depending on your coverage your ins. co. may issue you a rental car. Then an adjuster will probably be in contact with you personally to acess the damage. If the other driver is at fault you may be contacted by an adjuster for his insurance also.

They should deal with the claim on your behalf. Hopefully they will obtain agreement from the underwriters of the person who ran into the back of your car that they accept full responsibility for the damage and will pay for the repairs to your car and cover the excess payable on your insurance.
Did the culprit accept liability and were there witnesses to the accident? Were the police called? It is usual for the person who runs into the back of another car to be liable for the accident and you should not lose your NCB.

They'll contact you and confirm details, you may also get a call offering you compensation for any injury that might have occurred (his insurance co).....i once got a Â£1000 for a slight strain of whiplash...it doesn't affect your premium either

all you need to do is tell your insurance what has happened and ask for a courtesy car as it is not your fault there is no claim on your policy and costs for courtesy car ect are all recovered from the other drivers policy you should have no dealings with anything until your claim is paid out
the law in this country is that if a vehicle were to tailgate you and you jumped on the brakes ect the vehicle which is behind is to blame regardless

Depends whether you are in the UK or USA.

Now in the UK, you report the incident to the insurer, now some insurers if you give them enough details will waive your excess, although most of the time you would have to pay the excess at the completion of the repairs which your insurer then will attempt to reclaim for you.

Furthermore, courtesy cars, normally u can get one by going through the selected repairer network of an insurer, depending there is one on your policy or sometimes they may have an a credit hire company which would contact you to arrange a car and they would charge the Third Party's insurer.

So, while the insurer sorts out your vehicle and you drive a courtesy car they would be getting in touch with the other insurer to get them to admit liability and then sort out the rest of the claim for you.
