it depends on how much it will cost to have th work done if it is going to cost more than £275 it will be cheaper to claim. just remember you have to pay the first £75 of any claim and this as to be paid up front when you take the car to the garage.
IF IT IS ONLY MINOR have it done yourself but do not have it done until you are near the end of the three year lease just in case somebody runs into you and then you can also say they caused that damage and then it will cost you nowt
GERARD K you should not answer questions you dont know the answer to when you are on motabilty you dont get a no claims bonus and you also dont pay a increased premium the following year |

....and the excess.
I would take it to a garage and get a quote.
Then, ring up your insurance company, tell them the cost fo the quote and they will work out whether it is best to claim or not - they won;t mind telling you. |

You never win in these situtations...If you pay then you keep your no claims bonus but if you go through the insurance they get it back next time you renew...The cost is quiet small so I would pay it myself, then again the insurance may not penalise you either bacause its only 200 |

If the damage isn't to bad and just a paint job I would get a couple of estimates and tell the garage it's a private job and not on the insurance job, I've done this and for cash in the hand got it done quite cheaply, if the work is going to be under £200 you've got nothing to loose by asking anyway.. Good luck.. |

For small repairs of this nature I always pay myself because of the excess on the policy. it is often worth while paying more than the excess of the policy because no claims protection or not your premium will still go up if you claim.
Do not ever lose sight of the fact that insurance companies are only there to collect the premium |

depends on how long you have left on your claim and how much it would cost.
THe first thing to consider is how much it would cost to get a new wheel arch + labor.
if it is less than 200 pounds total i would wait, but if not, just file a claim, or if you can stand having paint scratched off then i wouldnt worry about it. |

Yeop you'll lose it. Best get a quote for repair. You may find that paying for the repair yourself is cheaper than losing no claims and excess.
Exactly the same thing happened to me. |

For future reference, it's worth considering protecting your no-claims bonus, which isn't that costly to do. |

Paul - it is motability.
You only have the annual inspection at service so do the following:
Report it to the Police and get a crime number
then
Hang on until you get your bonus for not making a claim
then
Make a claim with the Police number
Motability MAY check the date on the police number but it is a busy team and are very unlikely to do so. they'll just sort it out and you pay your £50 excess (it is £50 still I think)

Don't call the insurance company to ask them anything -- ask at the body shop(s) or go talk with an insurance agent who doesn't work with your company. Go to the insurance company only if you have decided you want to make a claim. The insurance company typically will make a note in your file about every single conversation. Depending on the situation they can put you down for an investigator to look into it because of something you said or they thought you might have said. Eventually that can lead to them raising your rate or even cancelling you just because you asked them a question. It's their business. They want to sell "uninsured/unidentified motorist" coverage and they exclude such situations if you didn't purchase that type of coverage. I know this from experience. It happened to me!!! |
