Someone ran into my parked car, they have no insurance, police say the car is registered to someone else?

contacted the owner he says he sold it, who should I go after to get my car fixed. I only have liability so my insurance won't pay. According to the body shop damages are about $4000, car is not drive-able. I really don't know how to handle this, any suggestions. Thank you

You need to go after both the owner and the driver. They both may be liable. Your insurance won't help because you have only liability and this is not a liability issue. If you had collision, your insurance company and their many lawyers would have done all of the work that you now must do on your own. |

Unfortunately your insurance carrier can only help with the coverages you decide to carry on your own policy. With liability only, they're not getting involved.
You have to find out when the original owner sold it, possibly he has a bill of sale. He also should have sent the DMV a Release of Liability form. If that's verified, your only option is to take the new owner to court for damages. |

Tell YOUR insurance agent to help you out. This is part of his job, going after the responsible parties. Hope you don't live in a no-fault state, which is good for bad drivers but not-so-good for good ones! |

If you have liability only, it should include Uninsured Motorist coverage which should take care of your repairs. |
