Someone sideswiped my parked car...how do I collect the insurance money?
|
Someone slid on the ice and sideswiped my car on the street about 2 weeks ago. I got the police report for it and it's been sitting in a pile and on my to do list. I have a day off so I wanna get this all settled now. I see her insurance company name on the report, but that's about it. What do I need to do to get my insurance money for a repair? Do I need to call this woman that hit my car? Or what?

Try to deal it out of pocket, otherwise insurance rates will go up much more. You can check how quotes will change here - carquotes.fateback.com |

You contact your own insurance and fill out a claims form giving all the details including the name of the other persons insurance. Your insurance will do the rest. |

sue the council for not gritting the roads..give the other drivers details to your insurance and let them do the rest that's what you pay them for. |

You should have enough information on the police report to contact her insurance company. All they will need is either her first and last name or her policy number.
If they are not able to help you, you can file through your insurance company and you can be sure that they will try to track down the woman so it is filed through her insurance. Your insurance is going to do all they can not to take a hit on something that wasn't your fault.
If worse comes to worse, though they will pay for the damages, however you will be responsible for the deductible. |

You need to file a claim against her insurance company. You should do that ASAP. Chances are she has already filed a claim for damages to her own car but her insurance company will not come to you first. So if I were you I would contact her insurance company by telephone and if necessary follow that up with a written confirmation. You will need to inform them of the police report, but chances are they already know of it's existence. They will most likely either dispatch an adjuster or refer you to one that is contracted to them. The adjuster will determine an estimated cost to repair the damage to your vehicle and may recommend you to a favored repair shop. Chances are either the insurance company or their adjuster will request a copy of your police report but they may opt to get their own copy of the report directly. The next step will be for you to put your vehicle into a repair shop. Her insurance company should provide you with a rental car while your vehicle in unavailable to you. With regard to your insurance company, I would notify them of your problem but I doubt if they will require any additional input from you unless the other insurance company balks on settlement. If that happens your insurance company will cover your loss, minus your deductible, and will handle your claim (subrogate) with the other insurance company to its conclusion. |

Contact her insurance company and give them her name and policy number along with a copy of the police report. |

When someone hit my car over the summer, I called my insurance company, gave them all the information, and then was instructed to call the other person's insurance company. Luckily, he'd already called his insurance company and they had all the information. They gave me different choices of places nearby that could give me estimates on the damage and once I had the estimate done, they gave that info to the insurance adjuster. Once the adjuster ok'd the amount, they called me and cut a check for the amount that was estimated. I got the money within a week of the accident. Good luck! |

You firstly report the matter to your insuers, THEY collect 'the money'. Assuming you did such, chase the claim with them, they will authorise an approved workshop to carry out repairs and pay them not you. |
