For registration, he can do it through the mail, and keep it in Texas.
For the drivers license, check with the state police, you may find that he does not have to renew it. I was in the Navy for 20 years, and my Ohio license remained good until 6 months after I got out, without having to be renewed.

If his home residence is still Texas, he can remain with Texas, he will have to come home and file the papers and renew and also same with the drivers license, if he is unable to come home, he might just have to renew in Florida.

No, he does not re-register his car in Florida. He can keep his TX License & Plate, if he gets pulled over all he has to do is be able to prove that he's a temp. resident of Florida for school.

As most have stated, the military is the only exception in the residency requirement.. He may have to go back to texas for a drivers license but the tags can be renewed by mail with no isssues.. Contact the county on it as they have this already set up to handle.

Some do decide to change the tage, but most just keep the home plates which as some have said is legal as long as he is active military

No he will not. As a member of the military he can keep his drivers license and vehicle registration in his home state. Even if his home of record is not Texas, with a valid military ID he will not have a problem in Florida

Please thank your son-in law, and your daughter for the sacrifices that they are making in service to our country!!

if he is only going to be there for 6 months then no he will not have to get new plates and he won't have to get a new drivers license...he will be fine...if he decides to stay there and live for good, then he will have to

no, if hes only gogin to be there 6 month dont think he even needs to file for florida residency, really i woudlnt worry about it at all, i was there for almsot 3 years and didnt do anything, i never got in any trouble, just make sure his insurancll cover at least the florida mnimum

If he gets a car, he has 1 month to get the address changed on the license. If he has a license already, he doesn't need to retake the test, just need to change the address.

Florida is a wacky state and you need to see what you're insurance company says.

Generally, you can keep the current policy - but since its Florida more than likely you will need to change it.

GUESS564
no, I am in the military also, and he will not have to worry about it, as long as he is in the military, the state that he recieved his license, and registration is his home state. You can send him his new plate registration, and if his license expires while he is there, he might want to go and get it renewed before he moves, but if he does not, then he might have to get a new one there.

He'll be alright for the 6 months if he doesn't get pulled over by the police for any violations. If he does he'll have to give his current address to them, that being a residence in Florida and not Texas, they may insist that he change them over or they may not depending on that states laws for such a thing.

NO NO NO NO NO. Federal law allows military personnel to retain their driver's license from their Home of Record, or the state from which they entered active duty. IF the plates do expire in 7 months, he may wish to consider giving the wife Power of Attorney to re-register the vehicle on his behalf. Otherwise, yes he will need to register the car in FL. There are rare exceptions where DMV's will allow the registration to be valid pending his return. IF the wife is in FL with him, he may give the POA to you...this would certainly help you determine if he trusts you to conduct business on his behalf or not. In some cases, if you know someone at the DMV, just go register on his behalf. My parents were able to keep mine going while I was overseas. If his driver's license is about to expire, he must renew them either in FL or travel back to TX. IF he were overseas, he could just write the state DMV office and they would issue him a driver's license.....honest to Goodness, without a picture or signature. I used to have one, and it is actually a valid document. Good luck

As long as both license and license plates are from the same state he does not have to re-license either.

No,but he must keep the paperwork always with him until the return because the duration is only 6 months and he will be back.
