I'm 19. I've got a speeding ticket the other day while driving with my dad's car. I havn't mentioned anything to anyone about the citation, I can pay the ticket off. But I'm wondering if the insurance will go up if I got pulled over but the car and insurance is my dad's?

The ticket and points will be yours. If you are on his insurance, it's possible it will cause a rate increase, if not it probably won't. |

Your insurance will go up not your Dads. If you mean your Dad pays for you policy then yes he will find out when he get the bill. |

You Have a problem, the insurance is going up next time it's do and of course your dad will find out then. Maybe you will be out on your own by then, if not O well |

I've never gotten points for the occassional speeding ticket, even the one where I was more than 20 miles over the speed limit. And I don't get them often, not more than 6 in the 40 years I've been driving. My insurance went up only when I had an accident. It didn't go up when my teenaged son got a lot of tickets, including getting arrested for not appearing in court.
Your state may be different. I'd suggest telling you father because if he finds out some other way, he ain't gonna like it. |

you can go to the courthouse and ask the prosecuter if you are able to have it amended. This will reduce the charge to a non-moving violation and will not affect your insurance. however you will usually have to pay double the fine. some jurisdictions require a lawyer to file a motion to amend. if you call the court they will usually advise you.
ps if you did anything stupid to the cop they can request no amendment be granted. |
