Stolen car?
|
Hi, my car was stolen today just wanted to ask a question about the insurance procedures.
I have fully comprehensive insurance with aa. The car was tinted with alloys wheels and the rear lights had been changed. These had not been disclosed to the insurance.
1. How long before the insurance pay out after it is stolen.
2. If it is recovered but damamged will the insurance pay for it to be fixed if they find it will alloys and tints etc
3. People say they give u the actual cash value of the car but is that the value from a dealer of from a private sale
thanks alot for your help Additional Details Im not lookin to get the money back from the extras i put in, i just want to know if the whole claim will be void

The non-disclosed items shouldn't be a problem as far as your cover is concerned, the insurers shouldn't consider them "performance enhancing". They will only look at the "book value" of the car in standard trim and work on that basis, so they won't be replacing your alloys etc., if that's relevant
What they look at is the cost at commercial rates of restoring the car to the condition it would have been in in normal trim. If that cost is too high related to the book value, they may well write it off.
It could take up to a month to sort out, what with the paperwork involved between them and the police and then an inspection by an assessor and an estimate for repairs, though it's usually quicker.
I mihght add that they CAN technically void your cover if they wish, as they can stand on the clause that says any modifications are to be advised to them - a lot depends on your relationship with them.
Oh, and if it's not recovered, it will be about the same amount of time between when you reported it and them paying out - the usual is a 30 day waiting period to see if it turns up. |

You can expect to wait 30 days b4 insurance will do anything. If you have full coverage any damage will be covered upto approx. 85% of fair market value (the actual estimated cost to replace your vehicle). in consideration of the alloys and tints, consideration will only be given if you have receipts for them. Insurance never will pay actual cash value, they will pay fair market value. Find several vehicles similar to the one you lost (online) print those off and wait for insurance to make you an offer, then suggest they find you oneequal to yours for the money they offer you. |

1. I'm not really sure about how long - I would think that they would want to give it some time to turn up.
2. The insurance company will pay for it to be fixed as long as the damage doesn't exceed the value of the car - then they will total it. Most of the time they will allow for the tint and different wheels. i have seen, however, sometimes they will pay for the oem wheels and any difference you might have to cover to get the alloy wheels. They won't replace the aftermarket tail lights if they are not DOT approved - but if they are, then usually they will repl with what you had.
3. Most insurance companies go by retail value in the NADA guide. They will take into consideration how many miles, prior dmg, etc...but in a total loss situation - I don't know how they would handle knowing the miles and previous condition.
Hope this helps and sorry about your car! |

I had the same happend to me and i want to tell you that there is nothing to worry about. In my case the insurance agency told me that if the car was found in 30 days then the insurance company would just pay for some damages. If the car is not found in 30 days then the insurance company would give you the value of the car. |

If the vehicle is not recovered then you should be paid market value, or ACV (actual cash value). If it is recovered and isn't destroyed (not likely) then they will pay to repair. There will be a deductible applied and your insurer has thirty days to recover the vehicle before you are paid. |

First... Actual Cash Value _is_ "Fair Markey Value" (i.e. the policy does not pay _replacement cost_)
1) Carriers are different on the time but yes, most wait 30 days. Almost all (if not all) policies have Transportation Expense built into the policy that applies for stolen vehicles. It usually pays $15/day toward a rental vehicle.
2) Some (very fiew) policies don't cover aftermarket parts but most do... especially if they are installed. As mentioned, be prepared to show pictures or receipts showing these items were on the vehicle.
3) Usually carriers use a 3rd party vendor to determine that value of the vehicle. Other may use a private party value (private party is just that... not a dealer). Some (few) will actually use the retail value (dealer value). |

"These had not been disclosed to the insurance." better to HAVE disclose them.. yep your premium might have cost more.. but end of the day , the insurers will assume its the "standard" model and give u the book value of it etc.
1.. as long as it takes.. they have to look into it. depends on the case.. also they have to liaise with the police
2. your alloys aren't disclosed as part of standard fittings.. anything that isn't.. they don't have to pay for. is the argument they could use.. you have the receipts for all these items also?
3. you get the BOOK value , the trade price of it. what its currently worth IF it's written off.. not private sale etc.. not dealer price. |
