Is it okay not to use a tax disc holder? Will the disc actually damage the windscreen???

Oddly enough it is a legal requirement that a "tax" disc be properly displayed. That is to say it must be properly affixed to the windscreen on the nearside. But no longer necessarily at the bottom.
Legally speaking it is not acceptable to attach it with a piece of sticky tape. Wherever, and by whatever means you attach it, it must be clearly visible or that is another offence.
Nearly forgot, it will only damage your screen if you try to nail it on. |

Well as far as i know it does have to be on show in the bottom near side of the windscreen. A tax disc holder is the easiest way to keep it there. Many people use those tamper proof disc holders as thieves target tax discs.
And in answer to your second question, it is highly unlikely to damage your windscreen unless you wrap it in a brick and throw it at it. |

As the tax disc needs to be displayed in the window. I suggest the Tamper proof one from the post office is best, as it protects your disc from theft and it will not damage the glass in any way. In fact none of the other types will either. |
