We live in Ct, we are considering buying a car in Vermont. 3hr ride one way. Does anyone know how we can avoid making this trip 2x? We drive up there decide we like it, then what drive all the way back to Ct for temp plates?Then drive all the way back to pick up the car?

If you are buying a brand new car, the dealer will put a temporary registration in the window. When the VT plates are mailed to you, take the car and plates to CT DMV and re-register the car for the CT state.
If you are buying from a private party, they will be signing the title over to you. Take the car and title to CT DMV and do the title/registration.
Are you buying a car with no plates? Is it not street legal? If so, get a one day moving pass from the DMV to move it from one storage facility to another.
In both cases the DMV will want to inspect the car physically for VIN#, safety and emission sticker and odometer disclosure. |
