Title has been filled wrong?

I bought a car and when filling the title my wife filled too ( I didn't want her to do so for personal reasons). Now the seller is gone to a different state and I don't want her name on the title. What can I do?
Additional Details
could I just scribble over her name? or should I go to the state where the car is titled and request a copy of the title?

This one depends upon you state. If the title has already been issued you will simply apply for a new title with only your name on it.
Here's the tricky part--If the car is titled as John and Jane Doe, both John and Jane need to sign off on the title in the assignment of title area. If the car is titled as John or Jane Doe only one of you will need to sign off in the assignment of title area.
In some states, Illinois for example, if there are two names on the title both parties will have to sign off on the assignment of title. |

Deb W is correct if you already turned in the paperwork.
If you haven't turned it in then you can fill out an Statement of Error or Erasure on Form REG 101 (In CA) Write it out correctly and that will accompany the title. Put the reason down simply as she signed in error. If the title was vested in "AND" then have your wife sign the error statement. |
