Is there a free site, to find the owner/owners of a vehicle, using the plate identification?

My mother passed away, and her "companion" bought a vehicle, one month earlier. We know that the insurance, on the car, is in both names. We are wondering if Mom is co-owner on the title. Alot of money went missing just before her passing.

No, I worked at the DMV in NJ for 5 years and we cant even tell you anything unless its you vehicle. If there is a problem go the the cops and they will help.

In NJ this is how you would do it (not sure with your state). Whoever is the executor of her will/estate can take the short surrogate form to the DMV and ask them what cars are still in her name or even co-owner on. They will tell the executor because they have the "power of attorney" for her. Good Luck! |

First off, was the plates & registration in this other persons name or your mom's? You will have to do several things. You would need to get a copy of your Mom's Death Certificate. Report the information to your local Police Dept. Make sure you get a copy of the report. I would call or email the Dept. of Motor Vehicles & see what they could do for you regarding the plates & registration. If the vehicle is registered in her name they will expire the plates & registration. Then if the other person is driving the vehicle & the Police pull him over they will have everything on record & they will tow it & hold the vehicle until the person can prove that it is there's. I would aslo contact the Bank who owns the note on the loan, if you know that then fax them a copy of the death certificate to make sure they take your Mom off as Primary or co-owner of the vehicle. This way the other person will be totally responsible for payments & if the person doesn't pay the bank will repo the vehicle. |

If there is a problem with a vehicle in your neighborhood, it needs to be reported to the local police department, so that they have a record on file about the complaint. |

You can take the VIN for the vehicle and contact your DMV to either get a copy of the title or find out whose name is on the title. You may have to provide a copy of the death certificate. |
