My mom wants to give me her car which is already 10 years old. But still drives pretty good. We have different last name.
How do I proceed ?? Do I have to pay tax for it?
what about insurance?

In the USA, simply take the title and your Mom to the DMV and make the transfer. There shouldn't be any sales tax due because close family members are exempt from sales tax. There will be title fees and depending on the state, a fee for new plates. You will need insurance unless you live in either Wisconsin or New Hampshire which do not require vehicle insurance. |

Your mom can go to the DMV(Department of Motor Vehicles) and get a sales tax waiver since she is giving you the car as a gift.
Yes, you will need insurance no matter what. If she will put you on her insurance it may be best to just leave the car in her name. |
