I wondering if someone could answer a question for me - me and my husband have been with Traveler's Insurance (auto insurance) for about a year and a half now.

Today, I got a call from our insurance agent - saying that we owed $133 in late fees and additional fees. This didnt' make any sense because my husband has an automatic withdraw through his bank that he uses to pay the monthly insurance payments.

Supposedly, what had happened - our insurance rate went up by a couple of dollars. In addition to this, they charge a $6 service charge to send out a paper bill/take payments from your bank account. My husband and I didn't know about either of these two charges - and this supposedly is what created the extra fees/charges that we now face. (Apparently the charges added up over an *ENTIRE YEAR*!!...I mean, come on - wouldn't/couldn't somebody have caught this detail earlier and notified us a bit sooner, thus saving us from all of this heart-ache and grief?! LOL!)

My question is - can they do this? Can they request we pay $133 in late fees - even though we weren't notified about the change in rates and the $6 service charge? (And the fact that this went out for a *WHOLE YEAR* until someone *supposedly* caught the mistake and notified us?)

That doesn't sound right for a Travelers policy. Any past due amounts would cause a problem a *LOT* sooner than a year. The EFT service charge is only $1 per month. $6 is the fee if you're on regular billing. Yours would be EFT.

Call the Travelers business center at 877 872-8737 ASAP and ask the Insurance Service Rep what your current balance is. This # goes to the company directly and is not an agency.
