Two names on car title, would like to take one off?

Both my mom and my uncle's name are on the car title. The car is paid off but my uncle lives in CA now ( he moved there). My uncle was a co-signer and he doesn't drive the car at all. My mom does.
So how should my mom proceed if she wants to have her name on the title and to remove my uncle's name. Does she need some kind of letter??

Transfer the title from your uncle and mother's name to just your mother's name. If the transfer is between family members with no financial consideration, you should be able to do it with just one form and a minimal paperwork fee at your local DMV office. You may need to send the original title card to your uncle to have him sign and date the back to release interest in the vehicle (include a self-addressed, stamped envelope), although it may be possible to do so without his signature. Exact procedures vary from state to state. Call your DMV and ask questions; they're there to help. |

Your uncle would need to state on a witnessed note that he wishes to surrender title. Your mother would then apply for title in her sole name. |
