UK Car Insurance Question...Please Help!?

Right...I'm 17, have just passed my test and am looking to buy a car a.s.a.p.

I have my eye on a car (Vauxhall Corsa worth around £2000) but cant afford to insure it myself because for £2000 i want fully comp and that leaves me with quotes of £3000 upwards (RIDICULOUS)

SO...a lot of my friends are getting insured on their mums/dads policy and then being a named driver on that policy but ive rung my mums insurance company and they have said that:
1. Yes you can insure two cars with us BUT by law you cannot be the named driver on both cars AND if you have two cars insured with us - any named driver CANNOT be under 25

So obviously theyre getting wise as to this little scam that people have been doing!

BUT...is there any way around it?!?!!?! Alot of my friends are telling me their mums have done got two cars and theyre (my friends) are the named driver on their mums policy!? BUT HOW HAVE THEY DONE THIS?!!?

If youre still following :( basically, i need a way of getting fully comp insurance on a car without paying upwards of £3000 as thats insane!

Really need advice, any help is seriously appreciated, thanks!

Everyone Say PEACE!
At 17 you don't expect to get fully comp insurance. Try getting third party NO FIRE NO THEFT if you want to save some money.
Here they give you a no claim bonus after 8 months

also they do pay as you go insurance

You could ask your friends which insurance companies their Mum is with / how they have done it.

If you want to build a no claims discount for yourself you would need to insure it in your own name, consider third party fire and theft only.
Ask if you would get a further discount if you were to do an advanced driving course...

Do a pass plus course with your instructor for around £150. Or just buy a cheaper older car for the first year until your NCB kicks in and then upgrade to something bigger/faster/better.

Buy a £500 car, spend £1,000 to insure it & reap the benefits next year when you'll have some no claims bonus.

How about you buy a 250 quid car? I had a Fiesta when in the UK, paid the whole of 100 quid for it, it lasted me 3 years till some thug stole it.

What's insane is spending £2000 for a car at 17.

Timbo is here
Problems-
If you are the main driver and your mum is down a the main driver on the policy this is fraud which might be detected if you have to claim or if the Police do some checking. this could result in both of you being insurance blacklisted forever. This has been going on forever and some companies will take the policy premiums as they know they won't have to pay out in the event of a claim when they find out the truth.

There is no reason why a person cannot be main driver or be named on loads of policies. I have 3 vehicles all of which I am the only driver and they are all on separate policies and all the companies know all about them all. I am also named on my partners policy for her car and that company knows about my 3 vehicles. The statement about the LAW is totally wrong.

Insurance companies can choose not to insure who they like and can set age limits as they wish for second drivers and most do.

There is no legal non-fraudulent way round this if you are the main driver then you are the one who has to be named as the main driver on the policy.
You now know that your friends on their parents policies are committing a criminal act in doing insurance fraud.
Suggest that for now you get a cheaper car on third party cover.

Based on the information that you are giving, your friends are all totally ILLEGAL.

If they are named drivers on their parents policy, they can ONLY drive the parents car and are NOT insured to drive any other.

Even if you got your parents to insure your car and named you as the additional driver, You are still ONLY a second driver and cannot therefore use it all the time.

JG is right - that's the way to go.
