With the increasing number of Number Plate Recognition cameras in the UK to catch wanted vehicles, speeding offenses and expired road fund license, are the cameras now used for catching motorists who have not got a valid MoT certificate?
If they are not used, then why not? and will or when will they be used?
What is the penalty for not having an MoT, (assuming insurance and vehicle is otherwise fit for the road/in position to pass an MoT test)?

Yes they are. You may have noticed that MOT certificates changed a while back - now they are all recorded in a central computer database to which the police have instant access.
I quite often see police cars camped out next to the speed cameras in Portsmouth - they are hooked up to the ANPR systems in the cameras waiting for uninsured/unMOTed cars or drivers with warrants out for their arrest.
Not sure about the penalty for not having an MOT. It would be a fine - I don't think they can endorse your license. Whether your car is roadworthy or not is largely irrelevant although if the police found faults (ie bad tyres) there would be additional penalties to pay which might result in your license being endorsed. |

Police have computers in there cars so if they punch in a number plate it tells them everything. |

All MOT Certificates are linked up to the driving standards agency data base so if you have not got a valid mot certificate then your car insurance is not valid this could lead to points and a fine on your driving licence. |

mot is already on computer so it only takes seconds 4 cops 2 find out. if no mot u have no insurance so if no current certificate car is not road worthy |

Again this is a bug brother siyuation isnt it,lets screw the motorist,granted in this case its for a good reason,ive just changed unsurance companys and was told that my insurance details would be put on a national database accessable by the rozzers
ANPRS is also in place as we all know
barcodes on your tax disc readable a hundred yards away by high quality cams
MOT's are all interlinked with this thru the dvla
