What's a good first car for a teenager to drive?

I bought my daughter a 1995 VW Cabrio on ebay. I got the car for $3500 less that retail due to a couple of issues that I knew how to repair. $500 later, she has a great, safe car. And the previous owner put on a new top 6 months before- there's $600 to $1000 saved!.

They A3 VW's 1995 -1999 are little tanks. Her car weighs 3900 lbs! Dual airbags and great on gas. Very reliable. And it's a convertable! See what good grades got her!

well anything under 1 litre , nissan micra,toyota starlet best in the west -insurance is cheaper.They ugly , but if you bump it ,it just gets more character hehehehe

I absolutely LOVED my first car. You probably have never even heard of it (they don't make 'em anymore) I had a ford probe. It was a little red sports car. I think small cars are good for teenagers, because those suv's nowadays have such high roll over risks, and inexperienced drivers wouldn't be too safe behind the wheel of them.

Forget the fancy street cars with body kits and fine tuned engines. Your insurance is gonna be more than the car is worth.

Get a good cheap runaround to get you started, clock up a few years on that then go for the car you'd like. Any knocks you pick up on the way wont take a huge chunk out of your budget and if you survive without having to make any claims in the meantime, it stands you in good stead for insuring a newer or more powerful motor when the time comes.

honda = small rocketship for a kid with a heavy foot ! a volvo is safe so is the smaller c class 190 mbz.. depends on alot of things really how much $ is alloted for the car, ins costs, preference and taste of young driver etc.. best bet? talk with your child and then your ins company there you may find the best answer as ins agents do know alot about this matter! cheers and safe driving

something that's cheap that doesn't have a leinholder so you won't have to have full coverage, just get liability, maybe uninsured motorists. teenage drivers make your insurance VERY expensive.

I got a Chevy Malibu for my first car. Its a good car

Something small and cheap, as petrol prices are so high now, you don't wanna pay a fortune just to run it, like a Honda Civic, Ford Festiva, Holden Barina, Nissan Pulsar, Hyundai Excel, Daihatsu Charade, KIA Rio. But i would say the best would be is a Mitsubishi Mirage they are really good and reliable cars.
(Alot of there's cars are just in Australia, i dunno if you could get them where you are)
Don't listen to that idiot who said about a Porshe or a BMW, you don't need that, if it get stolen or you crash it, the insurance premiums will be thru the roof, i can't believe that was even suggested lol.
