The law is straight forward, before driving a car the driver needs to know for sure that the car they are going to drive is insured.
If not, tuff. Wait for the fine and the points.

The owner of the car will end up getting a fairly hefty fine. As to the person who borrowed the car... if they also have a car that is properly insured, you are normally covered third party to drive other cars. They should check their own insurance policy for this. If they have no car / insurance, then.... oh dear ! |

hopefully prison i'm sick of paying insurance, and others think they don't need it, the driver knew they weren't insured either that or they must be stupid, either way get them off the road. |

It is a drivers responisibility to have the correct insurance, tax and such. The owner can be charged if they knowingly allow it to be driven, but the driver is the one who will get it in the neck... |

Usually a hefty fine for both of you. Unfortunately, pleading ignorance doesn't work. If the driver borrowed it and the owner was unaware of this, they could also look at prosecuting you for theft of the vehicle.
Just don't get caught I guess. |

Ignorance is no defence in the law. It is the person who is insured not the car. It is the person's responsibility to make they are insured to drive a car. If it is a first offence, then they will probably end up on probation. |
