Can somebody tell me all the docuemts I need to have in order to register the vehicle.

Just the title and the bill of sale. You'll have to go to the tax office and the DMV. |

When I registered my car here in California after I moved from Georgia, I needed proof of insurance, my driver's license, the SMOG check, and the car registration. I did NOT need my bill of sale or to go to any tax office, but maybe the DMV guy just fellin love with me at first site and that why I did not need bill of sales, blueprints, and three men and a baby. |

The Texas Title signed by both you and your relative, Form 343(application for title and registration),Form 256(statement of facts ) because you received the vehicle as a gift and must declare the current market value...these forms can be downloaded from the DMV website,a vehicle verification/inspection will be done at the DMV and finally a smog check(unless the vehicle is diesel or hybrid)...just make sure that you complete the smog test first before anything else to avoid a subsequent trip back to the DMV and be prepared to surrender the texas plates that are currently on the vehicle...and yes DMV accepts debit/atm cards now...goodluck! |

Bill of Sale is important with the $ amount on it (free gift) & signed by owner. Also, the signed over title to you.
Take the 2 documents to vehicle registration at the CA court house and to title section to have it changed to you. |

Bill of sale, a clear title (signed properly and accurately), the last tag receipt (in some cases), proof of insurance (in some states), a valid drivers license, and an current inspection (depending on the state). Check with your local DMV. |
