What do i do if my car is hit by a police car?

hi, i was involved with a collision with a police car that was on the wrong side of the road going at speed- my insurance are not interested- what can i do my car is a wreck? thanks

Phil McCracken
Your insurance SHOULD be interested. The police car was on the wrong side of the road EVEN if it had the lights and sirens on. This claim should be easy to settle.

"we dont do duvets"...
Why would your insurance not be interested, surely it is up to them to contact the Police's insurance and sort this out. I'd give them a kick up the back side, unless there is something else going on your not saying !!

The police are responsible and their insurance will pay - if they are at fault.

I would like to know why your insurer is not interested perhaps you are 3rd party fire and theft. It is open to you to sue the local police authority but see a solicitor first under the green card scheme

Hi
Simply its down to the police's insurance company, i woundnt worry about what your insurance say, report it to them, pop into a local police station and request thier insurance details.. and make a claim. as a rule, they will be at fault. teat it a sa normal claim..
hope this helps,

was the police blue light flashing ?,did you call the police to the scene (you should have called a separate unit),did you take the names numbers and all relevant particulars?.If the police driver was on the wrong side ,was he breathalised at the scene by a senior officer?.It sounds as though (due to your ignorance of correct procedure) that it will end up a simple knock for knock and a police get out.Just make sure you do not lose your no claim bonus for this. You can always go to the local police station and make a complaint, but you will have to insist, dont be put off if you think you are right, ask to see a senior officer.

Sue the police for dangerous driving,,,,,

The insurance company of the police are the ones that should be interested mainly but you should still insist on givbing all the facts to your insurance company, they must be informed if you are making a claim even though the third party may be at fault.

assuming that you treat it as any other accident and got driver details, registration number etc, it should go to the police (sorry, taxpayers) insurance company - did you get a crime scene reference from the police...?
good luck

My mother had a similar accident several years ago. The police made some fake measurements of their skid mark and threatened her. I hope your police are not as corrupt. Be sure to get witnesses and document everything. The officer who hit you can get in trouble if he was neglegent, but his fellow officers might lie for him.

CW
If the police driver was deemed at fault then their insurers will pay up. Presumably you got details at the scene?

Marc
Did the police vehicle have it's emergency lights while responding to an accident or incident? If so...you are at fault for not yeilding right of way.

first off, if your insurance company is not willing to help you, FIND A NEW ONE! not "being interested" is a sign you have a BAD company. next, call the local police dept and see who you would need to talk to about THEIR insurance company. they will have to file a claim if they were at fault to get your comphensation. honestly, if the police are not filing on theirs, YOUR company should pay out and then subrogate back to theirs to get reimbursed. you seriously need a new company!

You have two issues here. First, your insurance should cover you no matter who was at fault for the collision. I would give them a call and demand to know what provision in your policy allows them to ignore a claim. File an insurance claim.

Second, you may have grounds for damages from the city (or whatever municipality the police were from). Their insurance should cover your damages, and you might be eligible for some compensation on medical and psychological grounds. If you were injured in any way, then you might want to get a consultation with an attorney. That doesn't mean you have to hire the guy and sue the pants off the city; just get a lawyer to explain to you what your options are and what kind of compensation he thinks is fair.

MSAD
"my insurance are not interested" - Do you have collision coverage? If not - there is nothing your insurance company can do - you do not have the appropriate coverage to have them fix your car.

Call the insurance for the police car and file the claim. It may be through the city or government agency the police car was working for.

fist of all are you OK sounds nasty.your insurance company are having a laugh . if it was not your fault they should be backing you up all the way especially if its the polices fault . you should put a BIG claim in.they will back down and pay up good luck

Cry. And dont hold your breath waiting for your compensation. You will have a hard time getting your poor car sorted. Police and other large organisations grind very slowly. You were very lucky you didnt get hurt.

Just be thankful you are still alive. It was rather up to you to get out of the way.. The police complaints authority wiil probably help though.
