What do i need to roadtax my car ?

Basically I've just bought a second hand car (my first car), ive got an MOT and i should receive my insurance certificate with in the next couple of days. However ive been reading up and i think i need something that's called a New keeper supplement or registration certificate as well. Basically what is that ?. Is it the thing i sent of to the DVLA because ive just checked there website and it says it could be 4 weeks before i get a new one according to there site.

If the person you bought it from has sent it off you will recieve a new one in the post. you need , insurance cert. and mot. if required. I do mine on line it is easier. see link below.

along with the MOT and certificate of insurance you need the car logbook (or V5) when you bought the car you should have been given the new keepers supplement (which has your name and address written on) this small rectangular green paper is to be kept until your DVLA V5 is received (you do not send the new keepers supplement to the DVLA), you can use this to get your road tax if you have not got your V5 yet

as long as you have the new keeper thing and its NOT over4 weeks from the date on it, you can use this in place of the registration certificate. the new keeper supplemet should of been given to you by the previous owner, if not then ur stuffed! You also need ya insurance cerfificate and mot

you need the little bit off the log book bottom right hand corner you get that bit when the car changes hands

Get a V11 or V5 to prove ownership. You'll need a current certificate of insurance and a current MOT.

You will need the MOT, Insurance certificate, and Money. You should have kept or been given the new keeper slip (section 10) of the registration document which can be used as a temporary reg document. You will have to fill in a form at the Post Office. If you , or more properly the seller, has sent off the whole registration document you may need some other proof of ownership. If the MOT and insurance have been entered on the computer database you may be able to tax it on line. If it turns out that you have got to have the new reg document then DVLA's 4 weeks is a maximum. I got my new document 2 days after getting the car!

The form that you sent off to the DVLA would have had a section that you keep until you receive the registration documents in your name. I'm not sure but you may be able to fill out a new keeper form at the post office.

The documents usually take around 2 weeks to come back from DVLA, I know it says 4 weeks but they're just covering themselves.
