I happened to book a hotel in London last year
I asked if there was a place to park my car, they said yes, a few 100 yards up the road.
Well, that few 100 yards was approximately half a mile and again privately owned and didnt belong to the hotel at all .
I had to pay 25 pounds to park there as well as hotel bills?
What a rip off.
Do you people think this is a fair charge ?

Dude, have you stopped to think how far a few hundred yards IS? (duh!). 25 pounds does sound high but I suppose it's a live and learn lesson at this point. |

Yes, if there were no signs there and the hotel did not tell you about the charge, it was a typicall tourist trap. |

The price of parking probably is reasonable given the location of the hotel. As others have stated inform the hotel of the issue and try to deal with them about it first. As for the information that was missing unfortunately it does sound like a case of bad customer service. Often if you don't ask the right question they won't share the information you really want, so you have to get more creative and ask for more details when making arrangements in the future. |

yes Graham you were taken so make a point never go back and tell as many of your friends I wonder why you didn't mention the name of the hotel///anyway i had the same thing happen and i had to park opposite the hotel in NCP and for o/n did they take me /so never again will i use NCP in London |

I think they were wrong, but they weren't breaking any laws- (1) You asked whether there was somewhere to park your car and they said yes, and gave an APPROXIMATION of how far away it was and (2) Because they don't own it they aren't legally obliged to inform you of the cost.
Your best bet is to write a nice letter to the hotel management and tell them your story. Be fair and say that whilst you appreciate that parking is a premium in central London, you believe that you were deliberately misled as the information about the ownership of the car was withheld. Say that you do not wish to seek compensation but do not wish for other people to be ripped off in the way you have, but if they fail to respond to your letter you will not hesitate to contact abta/office of fair trading etc. If you are reasonable on your letter rather than darn right obnoxious you are far more likely to get a good response. |
