i've been buying this used car since last 2 weeks and drive it with no insurance. The MOT and tax will end in August. I just cant afford to buy the insurance yet. What happen if i don't insured it? i live in Northern Ireland, UK

The car will be impounded until you can show it is insured and if not done within 14 days the car will be crushed.
You will get 6 points on your licence which if you have had it less than 2 years will mean it will be revoked.
You will be fined at least £200 and the car will cost over £100 to get released.
You will find insurance will cost you loads more for years to come.
You will be ridiculed by your friends and acquaintances for being such an idiot.
Finally - if you have a crash and cause damage to other peoples cars and property then you could be sued and be paying it off in installments for years to come. |

Urgh whats with all the yanks answering a clearly marked UK answer. Anyway...
Chance of getting caught: There are auto number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras everywhere that auto check for things like insurance. Also most police vehicles use ANPR and they could be anywhere. So if you live in a city or town the chance of being found out isn't in your favor.
If you get caught: Car will be ceased, that will ALWAYS happen. You will then need to prove you have insurance to get the car back plus pay for storage. Otherwise its crushed. You will also have a criminal record and possibly 6-9 points on your license/disqualification. You can also be fined.
If you are in an accident: You will have to pay all costs of the damage even if the other person is to blame. They can also sue you on top of the damage costs. Your next insurance plan will be much more expensive. If you cause harm to another person in an accident you could face more serious punishment. If you harm someone due to negligence it will certainly be a harsher punishment. The punishment can be anything from a fine to prison depending on what you did, but being uninsured is likely to make the judge punish you more. |

You kill someone, you go to jail. You hit someone, you will never get decent insurace again. You get caught, you will have to to a producer to the police and go to court.
What the feck am I doing paying extortinate insurance rates when prats like you are dirving around without any!!!!

In the US you can't even get it registered without insurance.
I do know that without insurance you are putting yourself
at risk and a very costly one at that. |
