I just found out we did not pay the car insurance bill two weeks ago, so we are 15 days late on the payment. Can the insurance company (AIU) cancel my policy without notifying me?

With my company, if I don't pay on time, they give me 30 days, and I have to pay the late payment and the next month payment by the next months due date. But I am not sure about your insurance company. They will cancel your policy without notifying you. Call them and find out what you can do. |

Traditionally a part of all insurance policies are terms and conditions. An insurance company must give you a reason why they would cancel your policy, which is often registered letter or hand delivered within a period of time. I have seen 30 days grace and numerous letters in order to get someone to pay especially if you are long-term policy holder. I don't believe they can cancel you without doing it in writing. They can cancel it and even if they don't you are basically driving with out insurance right now. If you had an accident you wouldn't be covered. |
