Nothing as long as she and the other lady take care of it themselves. If there were no witnesses then it's your mom's word against hers.If they weren't going to report it to the insurance agency the a police report was not required. |

In most States, there is a threshold amount of damage necessary before reporting the incident to the authorities becomes mandatory. Reporting it to her insurance carrier is another story. |

Who was at fault? If it was your mom and if the other woman reports it, your mom can be charged with leaving he scene of an accident. Her insurance will have to cover damages to the other womans car and could possibly drop her. In most cases if the damage "looks" under $200 most of the time the cop lets the people involved work it out. But it's better to just go ahead and involve the police....the one time I didn't there was about $400 in damages done to my vehicle (it didn't look like that much) and I took all the persons info and never got my money! Lesson learned! |

Depends if it was put on her record, like if she got a ticket for it, it will automatically be on her record. If nothing was reported and not turned into anyones insurance, then nothing will happen. |

She should be ok! As long as she exchanged information with the other driver (insurance information) she will be ok. Most times if an accident is reported to insurance they will handle filing with DMV. If the other driver does not report it , it's almost as if the accident never happend |

You don't report accidents to the DMV, the insurance company handles that. You have a few choices when getting into an accident. You can either notify the police or not. You can also choose not to notify your insurance company of the accident. You really aren't supposed to, but some people don't wish to deal with their insurance because their rates will go up and it will have to pay a fee to the company (deductible) to have the damage repaired. When it is a minor accident, like the one your mom had, a lot of times the people involved will not notify anyone and take care of the damage itself. The other lady may be debating on whether to tell her insurance company and have the pay the fee or let your mom pay for the scratch herself. Nothing will happen if the accident is not reported. It can be handled privately because no one was hurt and the damage was minuscule. Make sure, however, you get PICTURES of the damage to keep everyone honest. |

the police should have been contacted and if your Mom got a ticket the DMV will know and points may be added to her license and her insurance could go up. |

DMV don't care if it doesn't involve the insurance companies. It's your mom's insurance company that wants to hear from her ASSUMING other party files the accident with her insurance company. While the events are fresh in your mom's memory, she should document the events, times, discussion she had with other party in some notes. Then, if other lady files with her insurance company, they will contant your mom's insurance company who in turn will contact your mom and ask for details. Your mom then can recall the events from her notes and things will get settled from there. Then either or both insurance companies will report the incident to DMV for their records. But first other party will have to file with her insurance company.
If your mom is still paranoid and does not want to wait, she can do two things now.
1. Contact her insurance rep and report the accident to him/her and give him/her the other party's contact info. They will investigate from there.
... or ...
2. Contact the other party and offer to fix the damage directly on the condition that other party doesn't report it to her insurance company. She should have the other party do an estimate to repair the car then your mom should write a check to the other party in the amount of the estimate, assuming she feels the estimate is reasonable. Make sure payment is done with a check so she has a record of the payment. The other party may cash the check and not do the repair, so it's cash in their pocket. The good thing for your mom is other party won't report the accident and your mom's insurance premium won't go up. (Note, this may be illegal in your state, so your mom will have to take it in faith that other lady will honor the arrangement.)
(I got into an accident once (my fault), I called the insurance company and reported it, they said OK, we'll get back to you if other party files, which they did after a few weeks.) |

hi,
all I know is that you cannot hide from the DMV. Somehow they will know it probably after 6 months. If nobody complain - this will be somehow ok. (at least, this is what my observation is).
if your mom chose not to report the accident to the insurance company and it is ok with the other party, who ever is at fault, will take care of the damage - insurance will not go high - |

No problem. If the other person isn't too concerned then there isn't a problem. Especially since your mom stopped and talked to the other person and exchanged info. You don't have to call the police unless someone is hurt or property damage is above a certain amount like $1000. |

To the DMV or to her insurance?? Do you mean she didn't call the police after the accident? Yeah, that is illegal. She could be prosecuted for leaving an accident scene without reporting it in some states, I don't know where you are, especially if the accident caused damage to some one else's property. Also if the other person reports it and she didn't, its possible that her insurance won't fix the damages done to her car. |
