What happens if you get into a car accident without insurance?

I'm a AAA claims adjuster....here's the deal:

We (AAA) are conducting 2 different investigations as required by the DOI. 1 is for coverage (known as a Claims Coverage Question), the 2nd is liability. Even though we are looking at the vehicle to assess the damage, this is not in anyway an implication of coverage...all it is is a damage assessment. If the CCQ is cleared (coverage is allowed) then the estimate is already on had for immediate payment.

Her parents aren't in the position to determine if AAA will cover something. Coverage questions are very difficult to resolve and can take weeks, sometimes months depending on the situation. There are many legal questions that must be answered prior to extending, or denying, coverage. Also, it is possible for 1 coverage to be denied while allowing coverage elsewhere. For example, it is possible collision coverage is allowed but liability coverage is denied, or to "step down" the liability coverage to the state minumum. It's a rather complicated mess depending on the facts.

In the meantime, tell your friend not to worry too much about it until the CCQ is cleared. Worse case scenario coverage is denied....hopefully your friend isn't the at fault driver. If she's the at fault driver....and depending on the state the accident happened in, both her & her parents could be on the hook for someone else's damages.

Keep in mind, without knowing the state you are in, let alone the policy involved (AAA sells 3 different policies in Northern CA alone), it's hard to get into specifics. The above is only a "generally speaking" response.

I'm assuming you had the accident, not your friend,(I have no idea why you would be on this message board otherwise).
You're in some trouble...........if you're over 18, and not living at home, you're probably not covered with insurance.
If the accident is your fault, you'll have to pay all damages, hope there were no injuries, and probably get a ticket for no proof of valid insurance.

well she in for a hart time, she going to need to pay for the other car, 2th their a ticket comeing,,,, 3th they could have the car ,helt, 4 th... it going to cost more now , than it would if she had inc, she may be able to talk to the other driver an work something out with them

Well, if she just started driving, they might let her off the hook. But there is the possibility that she won't, being as she didn't check to make sure she had her insurance. It's even stated in the manuals that if she is caught without insurance, you will get fined and all of that. You should find out if she was paying any money or not, and if her parents were paying money for her insurance.

I would suggest that your friend review her parents' AAA policy wording just to be safe, along with the state laws.

It wouldn't be her parents telling her it would be AAA, if her parents "think" she isn't covered, she shouldn't have been driving in the first place, if she is covered under the policy and if her parents are "unsure" of coverage it's still at the end of the day would fall back on AAA, and then how they determine coverage like "at fault" etc ....even though you may not cause the accident etc doesn't mean both parties won't suffer.........wait for AAA to determine.......If she is not insured, I can't really type what the outcome is ..........she's in XXXX

She will have to pay for the damages herself at the worst. And possibly pay a fine in certain states that you need insurance.

no insurance. you get sewed and the money for repairs, medical, pain and suffering etc. all comes out of your pocket!!! hope the damages weren't too bad and that no one was hurt. if that's not the case i hope she has a really good job!!! she will loose her lisence until the damages are paid to the other peoples insurance company. she could loose it for up to 30 years unless she makes financial arangements to pay.
this is no joke.. 30 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
