What happens if you get points on your licence but don't tell your insurance company and then have a crash?

i have been looking at questions regarding points and telling your insurance company, well i got points for contravening solid white lines but never told my insurance company about the points, then 1 month after in a carpark a young lad drove in to the side of me causing just over £1000 worth of damage. when i renew my insurance will i be penalised and what will happen about not telling thm about the points?

Potentially they can invalidate your insurance as you have not disclosed things which would affect the premium or ability to have insurance. |

if you dont disclose everything then the insurer could refuse to pay out on any claim and you are therefore uninsured !! |

When you renew your insurance be prepared for a shock..The insurance company will know about your points.. |

If you do not disclose that you have points on your licence, then they MAY choose not to insure you.
A lot of people have points on their licence, it's no big deal, as long as you are up front about it, Insurance companies will insure you. However if you are seen to be dishonest, then they will drop you like a hot potato.
P.s
Insurance companies in this country,do not have access to
PNC/ DL details, it's covered under data protection.
However, if you report an accident to the police, they do get access to certain parts of the police RTA reports |

As long as the person that hit you has valid insurance, then it should pay for the damage to your car.
However, you should tell your insurance company asap about your points. If it was the other way around and you cased an accident, then your insurance company might refuse to pay out as you did not give them the correct details.
If you get hit by someone else and the claim is on their insurance, it won't affect your insurance price for next year. |

If they pull your driving record upon renewal, they'll find out about it. Then you'll possibly have to look for new insurance. |

Borderslassuk has got it spot on. You are required under the terms of your contract with them to tell them of any relevant matters, which would include convictions, points etc. They MAY, as she says, decide to exercise their right to cancel your insurance as you've broken the contract in not telling them, but in practise they overlook the odd minor peccadillo.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, though I'd tell them now to clear your conscience. You know, "I've just realised, I think I didn't tell you . . ." It won't make much difference, if any, to your renewal. |

Every time you renew your insurance is supposed to pull your report again. Granted it may be different with me living in the states but I have never had to report it to my insurance after getting a ticket. Also if it was his fault he should have to pay to fix your car. Your insurance shouldn't be involved in that. |
