What happens if you hit a parked car?

ok so today i was backing up from my parkingspace and i lightly accidently hit the car next to me so when i was out i looked it and it was just paint scratches but there was dent in the in the car and i had seen it this morning before i parked but it was not me. so next thing i know the guy is running towards me with his buddues attacking me all like "you hit my car! you hit my car! theres the dent and the paint" so im liek wth i admit the paint was me but theres no way i made that dent i even saw it this morning and hes yelling at me like "i saw you!! i just did we all did" so he went, took my license plate number and got in his car, there was traffic accumilating because of this so i just left, i mean i knew i hadnt done anything crazy, but i now i anxious and scared because nothing like this has ever happened to me im only 18, but now im readong all of these things online that say i could get arrested for hit and run, but i really didnt i let him get my lisence plate number but it seemed thats all he wanted he didnt even want to talk. its been 4 hours and i dont know what to do now, its my moms car so i havnt told her yet. HELP!!!

It's not hit and run if you talked to the other driver. Tell your mom. It's kind of odd he didn't ask for your insurance information and just took your license plate. If the police question you about a hit and run, tell them if left and not you. If there are security cameras in the parking lot, that would prove it wasn't a hit and run. Next time, I'll call the police and report the accident even if the other party left. The police have no way of arresting you if you do that. As far as the damage to his car, you'll have to convince your insurance company the damage was already there, which is hard to prove.

You are suppose to stay at an accident no matter how small. At the very least, leave a note with your information on it. The unfortunate thing about hitting a car with a dent is, it's hard to prove the dent wasn't from you, especially if there is paint transfer.

Now in your case, you did talk to the owner after the accident, so no your can't be charged with hit and run. The owner is the one who left, not you. Mind you, if you refused to give your insurance, that's a different story. He probably wont do anything, but if he does, you just have to explain to the police that you talked to him, but he took off before you were able to exchange information.

Not a hit and run case. If the damage is under $1,000 (which it is), it's a non-reportable accident.

So you hit a car. Not the end of the world, they are called "accidents", not "on purposes" and you have insurance coverage that will cover such events.

But then you left. Bad idea. You can now be ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident. You can expect the police to know on your door.

So, tell mom, and mom needs to call insurance and tell them. Then you need to call or go down to the police station and give them your insurance information so the person you damaged can have their losses taken care of.

Then you need to review the steps to take upon having an accident before you think about driving again.

I was backing my truck up to park & might have accidently rubbed up w/ the car next to me. I got out to see if I did or didn't but I didn't see any damages, a neighbor saw me getting out & looking around the car & said she new the owner of the car & asked me if I wanted to go get him, I said sure but when he came out to he looked on the ground & pointed to a puddle of oil but I explained that he just parked on that spot, I did not see any oil actually moving, the puddle was already there. I don't know what to do since I feel he's trying to take advatage of this sistuation. My car is not insured so what might happen now?
