Usually, you need to either specify European cover, or inform your insurer that you're taking the car abroad. You'll have to contact your insurer or check your policy documents.

Unless you have paid extra for cover for other countries your insurance policy will only provide the minimum cover required by law in other EU countries. This will normally only be third party cover, not theft, so you won't be able to claim on your insurance.
