What happens on your first driving lesson?

As most people have already said the instructor will come to your house and pick you up and drive you to somewhere where the road is very quiet, maybe an industrial estate or similar. He will know that you are nervous, everybody is, and he'll probably try to make you laugh and relax. This is part of the learning process as you need to be able to carry on, or ignore, a conversation at the same time as you are driving so that passengers don't distract you. He'll show you the basics and talk you through their functions and then have you drive straight line for a short way at a low speed. It's scary but exhilarating and once you've done it you'll feel marvellous. He may also want you to read a number plate from a certain distance so that he knows your eyesight is up to the required standard. When your next lesson is due you'll be nervous again, it's entirely normal and if you stick with it each lesson will become easier and you'll be glad and feel really proud when you pass your test, good luck.

you will be taken through the basics first, like the gears mirrors, brake accelator and clutch, you will proberbley drive on quiet roads/areas first just to get used to the controls and using the mirrors.At the end of your lesson have a recap and maybe discuss your next lesson with you.Good luck and be safe.

dont worry-relax,the more nervous you are,the harder it will be.depending on your instructor,they will probably take you somewhere quite,and take you through the basics.it will just be little bits of driving,most likely in the slow gears at first.depending on how well your getting the hang of it is how far you go.

ah its brillant! everyone i no comes out of the first lesson and they LOVE driving! including me!
the instuctor has a clutch and a brake on his side so u have nothin to worry about! and there all real pateniet and nice !

Relax Laura, You will be picked up at home, your license and eyesight will be checked then you will be driven to a quiet area to start with. The first lesson is an introduction to all the controls of the car, which will take most of the lesson. Your instructor will assess your worries and will only allow you to drive at a speed, and on a road which suits your ability. Remember that it will all be a lot to take in, but trust your instructor, they will tailor your lessons to suit you.

hey dont worry, 1st lesson is cool. Chances are he/she will take you to a secluded road/car park where there isnt many cars, there you will learn the basics. The instructer will not rush you into anything, until you are comfortable, if this is your first time driving, then you probably wont be on the roads yet. Drive safely and enjoy

all you do really is get shown all the parts of the car, and what they do. then they will just teach you how to move the car slowly on a quiet road

depending on how well you do depends how far they take you. =]

tell them your nervous though and wenjoy it =]

There is NOTHING to worry about. When I had my first lesson, the instructor came to the door & lead me out to the car & opened the passenger door for me to get in.
This was because you never drive from outside your home on the first lesson. He will take you to an area where it is quite & then swap seats.
That way you wont be worried about who's watching you. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience & passed my test in 1983.

wow your old for taking driving lessons lol i took my when i was 15 what happens he help you with every thing on the car you most drive to stop sings and park the car he is easy on you the 1st and the 2nd lessons
