My brother needed a car, but has a bad reputaion, so I got a car and had the plates and registration put in my name and told him to get his oun insurance to drive it. So If he were to get into a wreck or anything would that hurt me at all or would it even matter considering the car insurance would be in his name, insuring him on any vehicle he drives.

You have permitted your brother to drive you car on the condition that he insurers it in his name. He has an accident and I presume he has insured it fully comprehensive he will owe yo a new car if it is a write off his insurance will pay the market value and he will owe you. If he has insured as third party only he still owes you the value of the car and you will still owe the finance company. I bet he won't pay you. |

Since if you are in a accident you can sue your own insurence company . I would think that you could be sued if your brother had a accident and was under insured or if they just wanted to be sure to have someone on the hook as you are the owner . Either give him the car as a gift or don't .I think you wouldn't have wrote this question that in your heart yo weren't already nervous . Listen to your intution . if he has a bad rep make it that his don't add it to yours. |

the insurance policy would be invalid as the owner of the car has to be the insurer of the car
not sure about other places
it wouldnt hurt u in any way insurance wise cos that in his name but if he dosnt tax it etc then the dvla would send the fines to u cos ur the owner of the car |
