the insurance company remove it from your possession they are suposed to destroy it but the trend is for them then to flog it to a scrap dealer who then does it up to sell on ebay claiming nothing is wrong with it............

confucious says
YOU LET THE INSURANCE DEAL WITH IT OR ALTERNATIVELY YOU HAVE IT TAKEN TO A SCRAPYARD AND YOU ARE ISSUED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF DESTRUCTION. YOU DON'T HAVE TO DECLARE IT SORN, BUT YOU DO HAVE TO INFORM THE DVLA AND SEND THEM THE CERTIFICATE SEND IT RECORDED DELIVERY SO YOU CAN PROVE YOU HAVE SENT IT OTHERWISE THEY MAY ISSUE A £80 FINE

Your insurance company will ask you sign a form releasing the vehicle to them.

They can then scrap it, repair it and sell it or sell it in the same condition provided the purchaser is aware of any unroadworthy conditions.

Hubby had one written off a few years ago as the expensive wheels were nicked. They sold it on and DVLA wrote to advise us that we had a ticket for speeding - luckily we had the receipt from the insurers....

It gets junked at the scrappies.
In insurance terms they will give you the money for how much they think its worth.

the insurance company gets it scraped . or sold to a dismantlers... and they pay you out . depends on what cat it is writen off.. as a cat d is repairable so you could buy it back if thats the case... only usefull if its a collectors car or somnething

go through a claim proccess. Through insurance...

Get the most stupid amount of money for it...real con, re-ject first offer

car gets taken to salvage or scrappy...

my car was recently 'written off' only because the wheel axel was knocked...to repair its pointless...

That car would prob be repaired, or find bits on ebay...

IT GOES TO THE SALVAGE YARD IF IT IS REALLY IN BAD SHAPE OR IT GOES TO AN AUCTION WHERE SOMEONE MIGHT BUY IT AND FIX IT UP AND SELL IT BACK TO SOMEONE THAT HAS BAD CREDIT.

Don't forget to notify the DVLA and fill in the SORN (Statutory Off the Road Notification).

Go to http://www.dvla.gov.uk and click on the Online Services tab at the top of the screen.

Depending on the nature of the incident that resulted in the vehicle being written off, the insurance company will deal with the disposal and any compensation required. Speak to them and they'll tell you all you need to do.

Other than that, all you should need to do is to notify DVLA.

****
You will need to notify DVLA otherwise you will be liable for payment of tax on it every year - all vehicles not declared off the road is deemed taxable.

It should go to the scrap yard, might get £50 for it if you're lucky.

If it was through a crash and insurance claim then you'll probably get the lowest possible value of the car before it was smashed, not money to buy it's new equivalent which I think is a complete con to be honest, home insurance doesn't work this way so why should car insurance?

The car will be on unmovable condition it needs to take to garrage for overwhole repair to be fit to drive in again.
