I saw someone get hit the other day, it was a little car hitting a big truck. I guess the truck assumed that there was no damage, and they just ran off. They aren't in trouble are they? I mean, even if their plate was captured, when they are pulled over again, what is the cop going to say? "Um, you got hit, and had no damage, so cool?"
I've been thinking about it, I can't figure it out, no one I know has the answer.

Even though the popular phrase is "hit and run", the actual charge is "leaving the scene of an accident".
In theory, someone who is hit and leaves could be charged.
Having left is particularly likely to be a problem if the driver of the car says that the accident was the fault of the driver of the truck. |

technically, they can get in trouble, as in most states you must stay at the scene of the accident. It's entirely possible, however, that the truck driver didn't know he was even hit (they have air seats and a lot of cushioning inside. So, if you didn't know you were hit, could you be at fault for it.
But, this could also be a stolen truck with an unlicensed driver, who just didn't want to involve the police.
There's also other reasons to stay behind, what if later the person who hit you said you hit them...see, there could be potential problems. Best thing, hang around and call the police |

If you flee and accident at all it's a crime. There needs to be an office to issue a ticket or not and determine whose fault it was or bring the situation to court if needed. Even if it was clearly the person who hit hims fault (in your eyes) the justice system needs to prove it legally.
My guess is that person that got hit had something to hide in his car or something that didn't want to get involved with the police because come one, if someone hits you and there's any chance at all that there's damage you sure don't want to have to pay for it. |
