Go to Autotrader, in the 'text' box put "Insurance Gp 1" and you'll get a few matches. Mainly hatchbacks with engines of 1.0L and below.

Well no car is really that cheap to insure, my first car was a 1.0 Litre 12v Corsa and that was insurance group 2. That cost me Â£1750 last year. When buying a car look at the insurance groups 1 is the lowest but these are smart cars and 20 is the highest which are Aston Martins etc. Try and get a car with insurance group 2 or 3. Although insurance also depends on your postcode and color of your car, a yellow car is cheaper to insure.

I write auto insurance for a living every day 5 days a week. You are 17 and I assume you are listed on your parents insurance policy as a driver?
If you aren't listed on their policy the rate will be much higher for you to have your own policy. If you plan to purchase your own insurance have your parents add you as a driver to their policy temporarily so you can provide proof you have been listed as a driver. In insurance, if you have proof of insurance coverage the rate is cheaper if you plan to purchase your own policy. If you do not plan to purchase your own policy and are listed on your parents policy... Then, my advice is to provide your report card/transcript if you are an honor student with a GPA 3.0 or above and a certificate or report card showing you have taken drivers education in school. Most insurance companies offer these discounts and that will also help with the rate. My final suggestion is find something cheap that you could replace if you were in an accident and just have liability insurance on it. Full coverage will cost a good amount especially if you are a male...

Anything with a small engine will also be cheap to insure.

Buy an oldish one for cash, spend time looking for one in good mechanical condition (ebay) which should cost you max $1500. Then pay cash for it, this will allow you to buy liability only insurance (you might want to attach medical to that).
After this, do the rounds of comparison sites and don't buy insurance until you have had a number of quotes and know what prices there are out there.
Take some time doing this, after a bit you'll learn all the jargon just by taking the quotes themselves.

between them you get quotes back from about 15 carriers by filling out just 2 forms! Btw, keep them on their toes too, check prices every six months, I often end up changing insurers as I constantly find cheaper prices.
