Assume you're looking for a banger-style car?! If you go for something old you can insure it 3rd party fire & theft, that way insurance is less and because it's worth nothing you just throw it away and buy another one if you smash it up. Renault Clio was very cheap for me (I had an H-reg) also Fiat Punto, Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa... really any small engined car (which isn't too nickable) shouldn't be too bad on the insurance. And of course the older the better. My old Clio was like a rock, never broke down, and if it needed repairing it always cost Â£150 which is a drop in the ocean compared to repair costs of new cars. And being old you wouldn't need to bother servicing - just change the oil. Quite frankly when you're young, just owning a car drops the resale value so I wouldn't bother looking after it too much!

Search for insurance groups and each car is in a different group from 1 to 20. 1 being corsa's etc and 20 ferrari. work with the group ones getting quotes on any of them that take your fancy if insurance is very dominant in your choice.

I think, yes, they do get in more accidents but not enough to justify the rates they do in fact charge.

I can tell you this: Your son's rates will go down significantly when he turns 25 and much more when he turns 30.

I have to pay big bucks for insurance because I have a DWI (I am 39). Tell him he can call you anytime and you will not yell at him or punish him and maybe he will avoid my mistake.

They just know they got you and exploit the situation. I hate them. They are almost as bad a lawyers.

Any car that is in insurance group 1. This is basically anything with a 1litre engine or less. Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 106, Fiat Panda, Smart car and Toyota yaris all come with 1.0 engines. The Skoda Fabia 1.2 also in group 1 as is the Citroen C2 1.1.

The other way of keeping insurance down is to go for a cheap car. Insurance is partly based on the cars value, so the cheaper the car the cheaper the policy.

Also you could suggest Pass Plus. This is a good way of not only getting cheaper insurance but also improving driving skills.

No particular insurere will be the cheapest, it depends on a whole range of things. The best bet is to ring round a few companies and see what they say.

It will not be cheap though.

A VW Jetta. The insurance rates are lower than most cars plus it is a safer car if an accident should happen.

if u go for a boy racer styled car i.e. corsa,saxo,clio etc ull gt humped by insurance...i went for an old 1.8 bluebird as my first car as its not the typical boy racer car and nt particularly cool or crashed often my insurance was about the same as my friends who had a 1 litre nova!!!

Find an independent agent and ask him to find you the best deal he can. There is nothing cheap considering you have no track record and considering your age. You can get a discount if you grades are good perhaps.

1.0 corsa merit I think is cheapest insurance only buy cheap and insure 3rd party as excess for theft etc more than value of car, also if car costs 2 much some insurance companys won't insure as over certain value they only do fully comp which is 2 higher risk. beware of putting kids on your inursance as cheap until they have an accident an destroy any no claims bonus you have so in long term can be very expensive descision

Buy a cheap car where it doesn't pay to insure it against theft or damage - you only want insurance if the boy hits someone else.

Insure the car with him as a part-time driver.

Oh, have him do a "defensive driving" course or something similar - at least on this side of the pond it can help reduce ones insurance rate.

All insurance prices are going to be extortionate because of your age, prices don't drop until you are 25 and over.

My renault clio 1.2 is quite good for insurance, best idea is prob ring a couple of insurance companys or check online for quotes for different models...then u will have a vague idea
